This Darjeeling is a beautiful spot with a view of the glorious Kanchenjanga now and then when the clouds permit it, and from a near hilltop one can catch a glimpse of Gauri Shankar now and then. Then, the people here too are so picturesque, the Tibetans and Nepalese and, above all, the beautiful Lepcha women.

The Madras people are deeper and more sincere, and, I am sure, will be able to collect funds from Madras itself. The Calcutta people are mostly enthusiastic (I mean the aristocracy) through patriotism, and their sympathy would never materialise.
